ASAA Basketball Provincials 2022 COVID-19 Safety and Precautionary Measures

Host Facility Regulations

General
- Waiver acknowledgment forms must be completed by all athletes and team personnel. Failure to complete makes the individual ineligible to compete at provincials (forms to be kept at the school).
- The principal of each school must complete the Principal acknowledgment form and send it to the ASAA office (info@asaa.ca). Failure to complete makes team ineligible to compete at provincials
- Follow all COVID-19 related mandates from the Government of Alberta (GoA), AHS and Livingstone Ranges School Division jurisdiction - this includes ALL participants: volunteers, athletes, coaches, officials, spectators
- Face Masks: It is recommended that athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, others, wear masks at all times, except athletes when they are competing
- Positive COVID cases must be reported and the person in question must isolate as per GoA and AHS regulations (linked below)
- Coach meetings must all be virtual and held before the event starts.
- There will be no food or beverages served in the official's room. Single-serve options will be made available
- When students are not playing, they should leave the school, as much as supervision requirements permit
- Increase time between games from 2 to 2.5 hours
- Reduced number of teams participating from 12 to 10
- Clearing of gym spectators between games to allow for air exchange
- Teams will be asked to leave the school between games
- There will be no pre-post game handshakes
- Pre-tournament practice times will be limited to 45 minutes
- Change rooms will be sanitized and the doors propped open between games to allow for air exchange
Host Facility Regulations
- Hand sanitizer: multiple containers at every entry point to school/facility and also to the gym entrance
- Masks: Recommendation to be worn by all individuals at all times except by student-athletes when competing
- Air Flow: Host school must open two exterior doors to competition facility/gym, at least once for 3-5 minutes each 2.5 hour period
- Designated team sites: Teams to be separated from other teams wherever possible. Reduce unnecessary interactions between athletes
- Facility sanitization practices: Touchable surfaces will be sanitized between games (e.g. scorer's table, door handles, etc.) and the ball will be sanitized before each game and at halftime
- Spectator access is at the discretion of the host school and all schools participating must follow the direction of the host school
- Spectator capacity at discretion of host school and all schools participating must follow host direction
- Recommend to maintain distance whenever possible
- All awards are to be picked up off a tray by athletes. Presenter of awards should be masked and should not shake hands with the athletes
- Once awards are presented, everyone should leave the gym immediately.
- All individuals traveling to a championship take a rapid COVID-19 test before departure from their residence
- All individuals attending the event in any capacity take a rapid test the morning of each day of competition
- All food services should follow AHS/GoA Guidelines
